The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has issued a warning about severe weather conditions in Mongolia, known as White and Iron Dzud, which are threatening the livelihoods and food supplies of thousands. These conditions have covered 76% of the country since November, reducing grazing areas and food access for animals. This has led to an increased livestock mortality rate, impacting 75% of herder families. The IFRC anticipates the situation will worsen, with animal deaths expected to surpass 4.7 million. Over 7,000 families are currently facing food shortages, and heavy snowfall has destroyed the homes and shelters of over 1,000 shepherd households.
