In 2023, Hungary harvested 90.61 thousand tons of peppers from 1.28 thousand hectares. The export volume and value of green peppers decreased by 28% and 34% respectively in the first nine months of 2024, while import volume and value increased by 34% and 37%. The largest pepper producer in the EU is Spain, but third-country peppers are gradually dominating the market. The price of domestically grown stuffed peppers at the Budapest Wholesale Market increased by 9% and 7% for smaller and larger peppers respectively.
