In 2020, much more fruit from South Africa to the EU and Russia, but much less to China

Despite (or thanks to?) The corona crisis, South Africa has exported 10% more fresh fruit this year than last year. The weather (storms) also did not prevent a lot of fruit from being exported. Based on figures up to and including September (last year accounted for 92% of the annual total), an export of fresh fruit is estimated at 3.6 million for the whole of 2020.The three previous years it was always between 3.26 and 3. 37 million tons. The figures do not include Zambia because the exports to that country in 2019 show a strange deviation. A quarter more to the Netherlands There are considerable differences in the development of exports to the various buyers. The Netherlands has traditionally been the main buyer of South African fruit. This year, according to South African customs (SARS), no less than a quarter more fresh fruit was exported to the Netherlands than in 2019. Compared to the two years before, it was 17% more.
