Based on market feedback, UCN's latest assessment shows that the FCA Oslo head-on gutted (HOG) 3-6kg specification has seen an average drop of NOK 2.4/kg, with the 4-5kg size falling from NOK 70/kg to NOK 68/kg; while the 6-7kg size dropped from NOK 75/kg to NOK 68/kg.
In the U.S. market, the price of Norwegian salmon fell significantly in the 41st week. After the Chinese National Day holiday, the demand for large-size purchases decreased, leading to a price drop in the U.S. market as well. Additionally, the ample supply of Chilean salmon also exerted some pressure on Norwegian suppliers.
The price of Chilean salmon in the U.S. market is also declining. Typically, Chilean fish prices show a downward trend at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but they start to rise with the advent of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
In the 41st week, the average price of Chilean Trim-D fillets fell by $0.25-$0.32/lb. Operators noted that the oversupply of 4-5lb fillets further contributed to the downward pressure.
Finally, the price of Scottish salmon also retreated in the 42nd week, although it remains higher than the same period in 2024. A buyer reported that the price for 5-6kg deliveries to cold storage is £6.30/kg, while larger sizes above 6kg are priced at £7.00/kg.
