Scanntech's research on over 40,000 points of sale in Brazil showed a 14% increase in beef sales and an 11% increase in poultry sales in the third quarter of 2023, due to significant price drops. Eggs also experienced a 17% increase in sales, while fish and pork suffered a decrease of 11% and 13% respectively. Beef, particularly sirloin and rump cuts, accounted for over 25% of total food retail revenue in Brazil.
Poultry sales saw a 29% increase in breast fillets, but fish, particularly tilapia and cod, saw a significant drop in sales volumes. Despite the decline in sales, salmon sales increased by 61.6%. The marketing director at Scanntech predicts a strong increase in beef consumption in 2023 due to a combination of increased average income and lower protein prices.
