In Ukraine, a 100% shortage of rye is predicted

In the marketing season of 2025 - 2026, Ukraine will face a 100% rye deficit, which will inevitably lead to an increase in rye bread prices. This was reported by Rodion Rybchynsky, director of the "Flour Millers of Ukraine" union, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine. According to him, Ukraine is already processing imported Polish rye, and bakers are using flour from Baltic countries. This situation has become a new reality for the industry. The main reason for the deficit, according to the industry association's assessment, is farmers' unwillingness to grow rye due to its lower yield - up to 40 centners per hectare compared to 60 centners for wheat. In previous years, the rye shortage in Ukraine was covered by supplies from Belarus.
