Kyrgyzstan imported over 34,500 tons of sunflower oil in 2022, spending more than $50 million, with the majority of the oil coming from Russia. The country's reliance on imported vegetable oil is seen as a problem, as domestic production only covered 11-12% of needs in 2021. In an effort to increase domestic production, the Ministry of Agriculture aimed to raise the provision of own raw materials to 20-25% in 2022. However, import data shows a slight decrease in domestic production compared to 2021.
