Tripura's Prime Minister, Biplab Deb, has dispatched the first shipment of canned pineapples weighing 40 tons from Kumarghat to Hamburg. This initiative is part of a state government scheme aimed at ensuring fair prices for pineapple growers. The scheme has led to a significant increase in the price of pineapples from 2 rupees to 15-20 rupees each. The northern part of Tripura is known for its high yield of sweet pineapples, but local consumption does not meet demand. Therefore, the state has been developing an export chain of unprocessed pineapples to the Middle East and Europe for the past three years.
