Indonesia's rice output for January and February is estimated at 2.25 million metric tonnes, which is a 46.3% drop from the same period last year due to El Nino affecting harvests. The prolonged drought caused by El Nino is expected to reduce Indonesia's rice output by 2% in 2023, with planting for the main harvest season delayed. The country has set a target to produce 32 million tonnes of rice in 2024, and the rainy season has started, allowing for planting on 1.7 million hectares in January and 1.4 million hectares in February.
