Among them, the European hazel blight stood out, caused by the bacteria Xanthomonas corylina, which is characterized by generating lesions in the bud, shoots and leaves of the tree. “The first infections appear in the buds, which could affect sprouting and subsequent fruit production, so if it is not controlled in a timely manner, losses close to, in extreme cases, up to 50% of the production, figures that could increase. in more susceptible varieties like Barcelona,” Rodríguez emphasized.
