Oksana Sergienko, an expert advisor to the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing, has identified Khmelnytskyi as having potential for pumpkin cultivation due to its rich soil and increasing global demand for pumpkin seeds. However, the ongoing war has halted pumpkin cultivation in regions such as Odesa and Zaporizhzhia, forcing growers to shift to the west, particularly the forest-steppe and Polissya regions. The chemical composition of Ukrainian pumpkin seeds has led to a surge in global interest, making it crucial for Ukraine to resume pumpkin farming to meet this demand.
