In the first quarter of 2020, Peru experienced a significant boost in its agricultural exports, with international demand for avocados surging by 226% compared to the same period in 2019, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation. In addition to avocados, exports of fresh grapes, frozen and fresh mangoes, and fresh asparagus also saw increases. Overall, Peru's agro-exports amounted to US $1,654 million, marking a 6.7% year-on-year increase, with non-traditional agricultural exports, accounting for 96% of the total, reaching US $1,592 million, a 9.3% increase from the previous year. Fruits and pulses were the primary contributors, growing by 19%, as demand for products such as fresh grapes, fresh mango, and avocado remained high despite the pandemic.
