The state Agriculture department of West Bengal plans to achieve self-sufficiency in the production of seed potatoes by 2030. They aim to stop importing from Punjab and Haryana and produce 100% virus-free potato seeds with the assistance of the International Potato Center (CIP). The state has already allocated INR 36 crore for seed production and will use the 'root cutting dispense' system in cold areas like Darjeeling and Kalimpong for faster and virus-free production.
