International project seeks new strategies for the Mediterranean almond tree in Portugal

From Portugal, the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB) and the National Nuts Competence Center (CNCFS) also form part of the consortium. The VALMEDALM project is funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Region (PRIMA), with support from the European program Horizon 2020. According to the promoters, this project “aims to boost local production of Mediterranean almonds through the implementation of intercropping practices as an integrated strategy aligned with economic and social aspects, as well as sustainable principles for adapting to climate change”.
