Turkey: International review of Sungurlu White

Heritage Vines of Turkey and Ankara University Faculty of Agriculture requested samples of Sungurlu White to compare with other grapes used in winemaking in Turkey. Ankara University Faculty of Agriculture Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hande Tahmaz Karaman and L’Institut Agro Montpellier initiated a joint study to determine the profiles of local varieties used in winemaking in Turkey by conducting DNA analyses and comparing this data with the institute’s rich database to determine the possible family relationships of these varieties. In 2017, officials contacted Selahattin Ambarkütük, who pioneered this work and is also a producer, and requested samples of Sungurlu White produced on an area of nearly 200 acres in Ayağıbüyük Village.
