The Rural Development Administration in Korea is working to increase the country's self-sufficiency in red beans by developing and distributing new varieties. These varieties include 'Hongeon', 'Hongda', 'Black Bead', 'Hunnarae', 'Hongmiin' and 'Arari', each with unique characteristics suitable for different dishes and processing methods. The RDA is also testing and recommending varieties for different cropping systems to increase efficiency and yield. The developed red bean seeds are sold and distributed through various agencies, and the RDA is also testing for resistance to abnormal climates and developing health functional materials to support the industrialization of red bean health functional food.
