In the 2020-21 season, Iran emerged as a significant player in the global fruit market, exporting 884,798 tons of apples worth €277 million to countries including Iraq, Russia, and the United Arab Emirates. Beyond these major markets, Iran also found demand in several other Asian and Middle Eastern countries, totaling 11 other export destinations. On the other hand, Iran imported bananas from countries such as Turkey, India, and Ecuador, with the volume and variety of imports dependent on its apple export performance. The first quarter of the financial year saw banana imports reaching 136,133 tons, highlighting the dynamic interplay between apple exports and banana imports in Iran's fruit market strategy.
