[Agricultural and Fisheries Newspaper=Kim Sin-ji Reporter] Starting next year, dairy products from the United States and the European Union (EU) will enter without tariffs due to the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). According to the 2025 agricultural outlook, the raw milk self-sufficiency rate last year was 46.7%, with more than half of the market already occupied by imported dairy products. In particular, according to the data from the "2024 Food Industry Raw Material Consumption Status Survey" released in May last year, the self-sufficiency rates for cheese and butter, whole milk powder, and skimmed milk powder in 2023 were 4.7%, 13.2%, 20.4%, and 37.3%, respectively. If tariffs on U.S. and EU dairy products are zeroed, the offensive of low-priced imported cheese, milk powder, and sterilized milk will intensify.
