Italian exports of soft wheat flours and durum wheat semolina saw a significant increase in 2023, with a rise of 4.7% and 13.6% respectively, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics. The volumes reached approximately 295,000 tonnes and 131,000 tonnes respectively. The Association of Industrial Millers of Italy (Italmopa) praised the positive trend and the quality of the Italian milling industry. The main export destinations included France, the US, Germany, the UK, and Spain, with notable increases in exports to all main EU countries, the Persian Gulf countries, and Japan.
