He also highlighted that Hungarian fish consumption is increasing. The Ministry of Agriculture has taken significant steps to support those affected, as it has reduced the VAT rate on fish from 27% to 5% and provided additional resources for the maintenance of fish production ponds. Fish consumption has indeed increased in recent years, but according to recent data from AKI and MA-HAL, the numbers fell back last year: As the diagram shows, consumption has been continuously above 6 kilos since 2015, but in 2023 it was only 5.80 kg.
