Japan's import of shrimp has seen positive growth for the third consecutive month, with a decrease of 2.5% year-on-year, totaling 17.983 billion yen. Farmed whiteleg shrimp imports increased by 9% year-on-year, with India as the largest supplier, followed by Indonesia and Ecuador. However, concerns about rising prices have been expressed, as consumers anticipate decreased consumption. There has also been a decrease in the import volume of cold-water shrimp, with increased prices from countries like Greenland, Canada, and Russia. The import volume of sushi shrimp increased by 10.6% year-on-year, while fried shrimp products saw a decrease of 9.8% year-on-year.
