South Korea: Jecheon City, field evaluation of first harvest Russian melon ‘Dunya’

Last month, Jecheon City harvested its first ‘Dyunya’, known as Russian melon, and held an on-site evaluation and tasting event. The evaluation meeting was held at the ‘Dunya’ pilot cultivation house in Yeonbak-ri, Bongyang-eup. ‘Dyunya’ is known as Russian melon or watermelon and is said to be a popular fruit in Central Asia. Accordingly, the city imported four types of excellent seeds. It is said that the city introduced Dunya with the goal of discovering new income crops and producing agricultural products in Jeche Bay. Accordingly, we selected two farms that have been cultivating Hamigwa (Chinese melons) for more than 7 years and conducted empirical cultivation.
