Jeju-Grown Broccoli New Variety 'Samda Green' Begins Full-Scale Supply Expansion

The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Agricultural Technology Institute (Director Sang-hwan Go) announced that it will fully expand the cultivation of the new broccoli variety 'Samdagreen', which has high yield and strong disease resistance suitable for Jeju's climate. According to the provincial agricultural technology institute, the broccoli cultivation area and production in Jeju are 1,262 hectares and 16,401 tons as of 2023, accounting for about 70% of the national cultivation area, with winter cultivation from January to February being the main type of production, which is difficult in mainland regions. However, since domestic seed companies have not developed varieties suitable for winter cultivation, 99% of seeds are dependent on overseas sources.
