(Jeju=Yonhap News) Reporter Go Seong-sik = Jeju announced on the 24th that additional inland logistics centers for distributing Jeju agricultural products will be installed in the Chungcheong and Gangwon regions. Jeju plans to expand its inland hub integrated logistics centers, currently operating in three regions (Gyeonggi, Gyeongbuk, Jeonnam) for logistics innovation of Jeju agricultural products, to two more locations in the Chungcheong and Gangwon regions and establish a nationwide integrated logistics system. Additionally, it plans to expand integrated logistics from large-scale distribution companies (B2B) to direct consumer sales (B2C), improve logistics conditions through the expansion of smart production-distribution centers (APC) and the replacement of aging technology-based AI sorting machines with light sensors, and other improvement projects. Furthermore, it plans to expand online wholesale market transactions and invest 29.8 billion won in logistics innovation projects. In addition, Jeju plans to invest a total of 211.5 billion won in key investment projects for agriculture, livestock, and food sectors next year, including 163.8 billion won for agricultural management support and debt reduction for farmers, 30.6 billion won for fostering future food industries and creating infrastructure, 10.3 billion won for low-carbon and eco-friendly livestock policies, and 6.8 billion won for expanding exports of Jeju livestock products and creating a pet-friendly city. Specifically, to resolve the shortage of agricultural and rural labor, Jeju plans to operate 10 public seasonal foreign worker programs and 8 rural labor intermediary centers, and to promote the food tech industry, revitalize local food, and support elderly smallholder farmers. Additionally, it plans to stabilize the production base and reduce feed costs for beef cattle, black cattle, dairy, poultry, beekeeping, and insect farming, and to transition to digital and AI-based smart livestock farming while increasing the added value in distribution and processing sectors, supporting growth at each stage of production, processing, and distribution. In line with the status of the Malsan Industry Special Zone, Jeju plans to transition from a horse racing-centered industry structure to a horse industry that integrates riding, leisure, tourism, and therapy. Additionally, Jeju plans to maintain its status as a WOAH-certified foot-and-mouth disease-free zone, pursue certification for regional pig fever-free zones, strengthen disease control, support facilities for exporting livestock products to the Southeast Asian premium market, complete the creation of public animal burial facilities, establish a mature pet culture, and foster related industries. koss@yna.co.kr
