A recent technical report by INIDEP on the squid fishing fleet's activity until April 22 shows a successful season with a 50% increase in average daily yields and a 62.5% increase in total catches compared to the 2023 harvest. The fleet, consisting of 70 ships, operated in the Management Unit south of the 44º South parallel, recording a total of 108,861 tons of catch. Additionally, the report highlights the presence of foreign vessels in areas disputed by the United Kingdom. The squid size and weight were found to be better compared to the beginning of the activities in the northern management unit, with mostly immature-maturing specimens identified as part of the northern Patagonian Buenos Aires stock.
