The harvest of summer crops for 2025 is already in full swing, and it is expected that the yield of summer crops will mostly be close to the average or above the EU average. In Southeastern Europe, only maize for grain and sunflower have suffered significantly, which has lowered the EU forecast by –3% and –10% below the average five-year value, respectively. Meanwhile, in the countries of Northern and Western Europe, the yield of most summer crops is expected to be close to the average or above the average. This October issue of the JRC MARS bulletin features an expanded section dedicated to the conditions of sowing and early germination of winter crops across Europe. Favorable weather and field conditions from France to Poland, from Scandinavia to Italy, have contributed to timely sowing with good germination and early plant development.
