China has not yet approved the import of fresh avocados from Kenya, despite earlier reports that such imports would be permitted subject to strict pest and disease analysis. Kenyan producers and exporters looking to export fresh avocados to China are required to ensure that their farms, packing houses, and fumigation facilities are registered with the Kenyan government. The Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service has inspected companies applying to export avocados to China, but Chinese authorities are still conducting virtual inspections of orchards and processing facilities. Kenya is the continent's largest avocado producer and exporter, with the product accounting for nearly half of the country's total fruit exports.
