South Korea has kept the border closed for beef imports from Belgium, while it has been open for the Netherlands and Denmark since 2019. The restriction is for meat from cattle under 30 months of age. The Netherlands and Denmark exported 42 tons and 486 tons of frozen beef to South Korea in 2023, respectively, making the US and Australia the largest suppliers. France and Ireland have recently been authorized to join the list of beef exporters to South Korea. However, the impact on Belgian beef exports is anticipated to be minimal as most of it does not meet the age restriction and half of it is exported within the EU.
