The Korean Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency has approved the import of fresh grapefruit from Vietnam, making it the third Vietnamese fresh fruit to be allowed into Korea after dragon fruit and mango. This is anticipated to provide significant opportunities for Vietnamese agricultural products on the global stage. Vietnam, with a grapefruit cultivation area of over 100,000 hectares and an annual production of over 900,000 tons, is optimistic about the potential of this market. The process of negotiating this agreement was initiated in 2018 and gained momentum after the Covid-19 pandemic, resulting in a technical agreement in April 2024. The Vietnamese Plant Protection Department has published the import regulations and draft plant quarantine and food safety requirements on its website to facilitate trade.
