Kyrgyzstan harvested wheat 25% less than last year’s figures

Harvesting of grain in Kyrgyzstan has been completed, and the wheat harvest was 25% lower than last year, Bizmedia.kz reports. According to the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic, as of November 23 this year, the total area of sown cereals (excluding legumes, rice and buckwheat) amounted to 585.1 thousand hectares, which is 1.7% more than last year in the same period. However, the primary accounting recorded 1.7 million tons of grain harvested, which is 13.4% less than last year. The reason for this is a 28% decrease in grain yields compared to last year, as stated in the report of the National Statistics Committee. In particular, the total yield of wheat decreased by 25.7% due to abnormally high summer temperatures during the growing season. There were harvested 464 thousand tons of wheat with an average yield of 20.2 c/ha, which compares to 625 thousand tons and 26.8 c/ha respectively last year.
