Argentina: Expected corn production increases in La Pampa

With 58% of the area harvested, the Córdoba Grain Exchange estimated a corn production in La Pampa of 3.7 million tons of production, which represents a 15% year-on-year increase. Towards mid-July the corn harvest gained pace, reaching more than half of the harvestable lots. Of the 881 thousand hectares planted in the province, 17% would have been used for fodder and, discounting 9% of lost area, the harvestable surface is around 661 thousand hectares. Based on the surface value obtained from satellite images and the information provided by collaborators, a production of 3.7 million tons is estimated, which represents a positive year-on-year variation of 15% and an increase of 680 thousand tons compared to the May estimate. The estimated average yield, which increased by about 3 qq, varies between 38.8 qq/ha in Atreucó and 75.0 qq/ha in Quemú Quemú.
