Lack of rain may reduce silage quality

According to the document, water stress may compromise important characteristics of the plant, such as the proportion of green stalk and the formation of grains. Emater states that, given this scenario, some farmers are considering bringing forward the harvest to avoid greater losses. "The possibility of deterioration of the plant's characteristics may lead to the anticipation of the harvest," the report indicates, stressing that the decision may occur even with a slight reduction in the quality of the silage.
