The Lazio region of Italy, a major hazelnut producer, has seen a dramatic drop in production, with a 50% decrease and up to 70% in some areas due to the combined effects of climate change and the Asian bug. In response, the region's Agriculture Councilor, Giancarlo Righini, has established a permanent crisis table to address the situation. The focus will be on biological antagonists, or natural enemies of pests, rather than pesticides. Hazelnut cultivation, which supports around 4,000 families and generates over 120 million euros in annual revenue, is a crucial part of Lazio's economy and contributes significantly to the country's overall production.
