Tecomán is experiencing a surge in ant theft, with lemon and coconut crops being targeted. Thieves are stealing irrigation systems, including sprinklers and micro-sprinklers, which are then resold at high prices. Oscar Ávalos Verdugo, a producer and agricultural leader, has called on authorities to investigate these crimes properly, as he believes the damage causes significant financial loss to the producers. He also suggested that the authorities should question those found cutting fruit after working hours, as it is known that farmers work from 6 AM to 6 PM. Verdugo stresses that the theft of crops is similar to 'huachicoleo' (fuel theft) and needs to be addressed equally seriously by the authorities.
