Mexico: Lobster doubles its price

In the season from July 1, 2021 to February 28, 2022, not only did the lobster catch improve, but the price also increased, said José Luis Carrillo Galaz, president of the Regional Federation of Fishing Cooperatives of the Center and West of Yucatan. Compared to the 2020-2021 period, the price doubled, to the benefit of fishermen who catch the crustacean in the Alacranes reef area and in Yucatecan ports, he added. He indicated that so far in the 2021-2022 lobster fishing season, 550 tons of the crustacean have already been caught, and in the same period of the 2020-2021 season, 500 tons were caught.
