Kazakhstan is addressing its locust problem by developing methods to collect and paralyze locusts, in collaboration with German scientists. The initiative, supported by the government and the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, aims to process and export locusts rather than suggest them as food for locals. With over 2 billion people globally consuming locusts and the global edible insect market projected to exceed $1.5 billion by 2026, Kazakhstan sees potential in exporting to markets like Thailand. The FAO confirms locusts as a safe, protein-rich food source, and various countries are also exploring sustainable locust utilization methods.
