The Malaysian government is contemplating the cessation of egg subsidies at all levels once the local egg supply stabilizes, in order to allocate the funds towards more crucial agricultural products. This decision follows the successful cancellation of chicken subsidies last year, which has resulted in a stable market price and supply of chicken. The government had allocated RM927 million (approximately S$282 million) for egg subsidies last year. The proposal to discontinue the egg subsidy is currently under review by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Living Expenses.
