The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Aquaculture (RGCA) has been granted a patent for its mud crab hatchery technology until 2030 by the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks. This technology is expected to enhance the growth of the aquaculture sector, particularly in southeast Asian countries where mud crab is a popular seafood. The technology has increased the survival rate of crab instar from 3% to 7%. So far, 7.28 million seeds have been produced and supplied to 659 farmers in the country.
