A report by the Mexican Meat Council (Comecarne) has found that meat consumption in Mexico rose by 4.5% between January and October 2024, compared to the same period in the previous year. This increase is attributed to improved purchasing power due to social programs and is expected to be boosted by a 12% rise in the minimum wage. The report also showed that beef consumption grew by 6.9%, pork by 6.7%, and chicken by 1.9%. To meet this demand, Mexico imported 2.47 million tons of meat from countries like the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Argentina.
