Mexico's aquaculture and fisheries production reached 47,239 million pesos (2,321 million dollars) in 2021, a 7.5% increase from the previous year, with a total volume of 1,982,000 tons. The industry is projected to grow further in 2022, with the northwestern region being the main producer and supplier of aquaculture and fishery feed. The temporary ban on capture shrimp exports to the US in 2021 did not significantly affect production. The states of Sonora, Sinaloa, Baja California, Baja California Sur, and Nayarit were the leading producers of various fish species in 2021.
