On June 9, G1 website reported that Brazilian cheese bread balls received a 4.5-star rating (out of 5 stars) on the site, the same rating as Chinese jianbing, which ranked sixth. Turkish traditional breakfast (kahvaltı) topped the list with a 4.8-star rating, while Serbia's komplet lepinja, a bread with eggs and cream, ranked second with 4.6 stars.
The website mentioned that Brazilian cheese bread balls were originally invented by African slaves. They used cassava residue to create a starchy, fine white powder, which they kneaded into balls and baked.
Taste Atlas noted that cheese was only widely introduced to Brazil in the 19th century after the end of slavery. At that time, Afro-Brazilians began to have access to dairy products, especially those in Minas Gerais, the center of dairy production in Brazil.
