The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, participated, this Wednesday (26), in the ceremony in honor of the 116 years of the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), an agency linked to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa). The event took place at the institute's headquarters in Brasília (DF). Created by Decree No. 7,672, of November 18, 1909, Inmet was born as the Directorate of Meteorology and Astronomy, linked to the then Ministry of Agriculture, Industry and Commerce, with the mission of improving the quality of national production through meteorological information. The current name was established in November 1992, by Law No. 8,490. Responsible for representing Brazil in the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Inmet coordinates the observation network that integrates the Global Weather Surveillance System.
