The Russian Ministry of Agriculture is proposing a temporary limit on sugar exports to ensure supply agreements with EAEU partners and maintain domestic market stability. This comes as sugar production in Russia is projected to increase by 9.8% to 6.8 million tons in the 2023-2024 agricultural season, due to a high sugar beet harvest. The affordability of Russian sugar has attracted new global importers such as Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, the DPRK, and Senegal.
