Mississippi row crop growers are planning to plant more soybeans and corn in 2021 but less cotton, rice, or hay. The total row crop acreage for 2021 is estimated to be around 4.18 billion acres, a slight increase from last year. Soybean acreage is forecasted to increase by 5% to 2.2 million acres, while cotton planting is expected to decrease by 6% to 500,000 acres. Corn planting is projected to increase by 25% to 640,000 acres. This comes as U.S. corn exports to China have increased by over 1,000% this marketing year.
