Moldova's ruling PAS party is proposing a draft law to reinstate import licensing for grains, sunseed, and corn, in an effort to protect local farmers from the price competition and unrestricted imports from Ukraine. The licenses would be issued to entities involved in oil production, flour milling, livestock farming, and animal food production, and would be valid until the end of 2024 with an option to extend for another year. This move is in response to concerns about Moldovan farmers' inability to compete in the market and the potential social and financial repercussions for them. The draft law follows the expiration of last year's import licensing period for these commodities, during which Moldova issued 12 licenses for the import of a certain amount of sunseed and corn.
