Moldova's fruit industry, particularly apples, has been significantly impacted due to a small harvest caused by drought and the loss of the largest export market, Russia, following an embargo. Despite these challenges, including the geopolitical situation and logistical difficulties, the industry has found resilience by expanding its export markets from 18 to 30 countries in 2022. Moldova Fruct, the association of fruit growers and exporters, is optimistic about selling the 100,000 tons of apples in storage and expects to continue selling most of its apples to CIS countries, with a slight shift to the Middle East. However, lower income is expected due to unchanged export prices, a smaller harvest, and inflation.
