Mongolia still relies on imports for more than 40% of its milk and dairy products

In the first 10 months of 2024, Mongolia experienced a 20% increase in dairy product imports, totaling 21.1 million US dollars. The imports consisted of various products such as cheese, milk powder, cream, yogurt, and liquid milk. Milk powder imports alone accounted for 11.4 million US dollars. In an effort to increase the domestic supply of milk and dairy products and meet demand, the Mongolian government has announced a subsidy for livestock farmers, providing them with 1,000 tugriks (0.29 US dollars) per liter of raw milk. The current market price for raw milk is approximately 3,000 tugriks (0.88 US dollars) per liter.
