From 2018 to 2022, there was a notable shift in the European Union's (EU) tomato market, with Moroccan tomato sales experiencing a significant increase of 38.05% while Spanish tomato exports to the EU saw a decrease of 23.97%. In 2022, Morocco emerged as the second-largest supplier of tomatoes to the EU, following the Netherlands, with a volume of 404.99 million kilos, despite starting with lower sales volumes in the past. This shift indicates a growing competitive presence of Moroccan tomatoes in the EU market, challenging the traditional dominance of Spanish tomatoes. The report also highlights a slight decrease in the total volume of tomatoes purchased by the EU, with the Netherlands, Spain, Morocco, France, and Türkiye being the top five suppliers, each experiencing different trends in export volumes and average prices per kilo over the specified timeframe.
