Since 2017, around 40 mushroom farms in Ukraine have shut down due to an oversaturated market and falling prices. The country's mushroom production is projected to reach 70,000 tons this year, up from 65,000 tons last year, but prices have dropped for the second year in a row. Maksym Yenchenko, the director of the UMDIS Mushroom Information Agency, suggests that the industry could stabilize next year, with production expected to rise to 71,000 tons. He proposes solutions such as increasing exports, stimulating domestic consumption, and cutting costs, but points out the challenges faced in exporting Ukrainian mushrooms to the European Union. Yenchenko also recommends that producers shift to preliminary contracts with retail chains to reduce their costs.
