Chinese customs has mandated that pineapple plantations and processing plants exporting to China from Myanmar must be registered and should adhere to good agricultural practices, quality management, food safety traceability systems, and integrated pest management. The fruits are required to be thoroughly washed and checked for defects. Inspection of at least 2% of the export volume will be conducted by Myanmar authorities in the initial two years, after which it will be reduced to 1% if no issues are found. Since the suspension of exports to China in 2019, Myanmar's pineapple industry has been negatively affected, despite its expansion into other markets like Thailand and Singapore.
